About Tsomgo Ultra
Bringing Ultra running excellence to the breathtaking Landscape of Sikkim
The Organizers
Dedicated to creating world-class running experiences in the Himalayas

Founded on April 29, 2005, Serenity Home is a haven for healing and recovery nestled in Lower Burtuk, Gangtok. For over a decade, it has offered hope and support to individuals and families affected by substance abuse, guiding them toward lasting change.
Beyond treatment, Serenity Home builds awareness through events like Red Fest, a music initiative on HIV/AIDS awareness, and the Serenity Cup, a football tournament bringing together NGOs working for the same cause.
Its 144-day residential program focuses on holistic recovery — nurturing the mind, body, and spirit — to help each person rediscover strength, purpose, and the beauty of a renewed life.

Kudum — which literally means “To Run” in Nepali — is a bunch of slightly unhinged runners who believe there’s no better way to spend a weekend than to voluntarily suffer and convince others to do the same.
What started as a crooked idea — “let’s make a race that’s painful for everyone, including us!” — slowly turned into Tsomgo Ultra, a beautifully brutal ultra-distance run across the wild landscapes of Sikkim.
We’re not here to make it easy. We’re here for the burn in the legs, the gasps for breath, and the mountain views that almost make it all worth it. Almost.
Race History
Four editions of pushing boundaries and celebrating the spirit of running
The Tsomgo Ultra is Sikkim’s only ultra-distance race — a challenge crafted by a group of passionate runners who believe in pushing beyond limits. What began as a 42 km marathon in 2022 evolved into a true ultra-distance race in 2023, driven by the spirit of runners ready to take on the unthinkable.
The race begins at Ganesh Tok, just 5 km from Gangtok, and leads runners through winding mountain roads to the stunning Tsomgo Lake, before looping back to the starting point. Every kilometer offers a test of endurance and a reward of breathtaking views — a journey through the heart of the Eastern Himalayas, where grit meets grandeur.
Our Mascots
Each edition celebrates the spirit of Sikkim

For Tsomgo Ultra 2.0, we welcome a new symbol of endurance — the Yak. Majestic, resilient, and unshakable, the yak has long been a guardian of the high Himalayas, carrying life and hope across altitudes where few dare to tread. Much like an ultra runner, the yak thrives in thin air and steep climbs. It doesn’t rush — it endures

Red Panda, the official mascot of Tsomgo Ultra 3.0 — a creature as rare, resilient, and captivating as Sikkim itself. Found in the misty forests of the Eastern Himalayas, the red panda is not just Sikkim’s state animal; it’s a symbol of balance, endurance, and quiet strength — qualities every ultra runner embodies.

The mountains roar — the Snow Lion, for Tsomgo Ultra 4.0 the mythical guardian of the Himalayas. Fierce yet pure, fearless yet compassionate, the Snow Lion represents strength, courage, and an unyielding spirit — everything that defines an ultra runner on the hills of Sikkim.

For Tsomgo Ultra 5.0, we celebrate the Blue Sheep, a true mountain dweller of the high Himalayas. Graceful, agile, and perfectly adapted to rugged terrain, the blue sheep embodies resilience, balance, and perseverance. Thriving where few dare to tread, teaching us that endurance is not just about speed, but about skill, focus, and unwavering determination.
